When I ran Voyageur as my first 50 (in 2007), I felt great running the first half in 4:20. I finished in 10:09; the woman I ran the first half with ran under 9:00. I was in shape to run a marathon in 3:00, so the technical parts got me, as did running out of energy and dehydrating.<br /><br />One thing that may be useful: for some reason, almost everyone runs the second half about 40 minutes slower than the first half, regardless of speed.<br /><br />Your plan to start "slow" and then speed up in the middle is a little naive. 15 miles in, you have a series of hills that may fry your quads and you have to do them again on the way back.<br /><br />No matter what, it'll be great to see you there... and you WILL beat me.
